BTEC Advanced Professional Diploma in Management Studies awarded by Edexcel
Edexcel, a Pearson company, is the UK’s largest awarding body offering academic and vocational qualifications and testing to more than 25,000 schools, colleges, employers and other places of learning here and in over 100 countries worldwide. Edexcel deliver 9.4 million exam scripts each year, with 3 million marked onscreen in 2005. Edexcel qualifications include GCSE, AS and A Level, GNVQ, NVQ and the BTEC suite of vocational qualifications from entry level to BTEC Higher National Diplomas and Foundation Degrees. Edexcel also manage the data collection, marking and distribution of the National Curriculum Tests at Key Stages 2 and 3, and the Year 7 Progress Tests.
BTEC Advanced Professional Diploma in Management Studies
The BTEC Advanced Professional Diploma in Management Studies is an internationally recognised qualification accredited by the leading Awarding Body, Edexcel which focuses on business, management and commerce. Management studies

It can form the first part of a post-graduate Masters degree in Business and many UK universities (e.g. University of Sunderland and Heriott Watt University). accept the DMS as an entry qualification to a Masters degree while some accept it with advanced standing, reducing the time to attain the Masters.

In addition, the Edexcel Diploma in Management Studies is a valuable qualification in its own right as it prepares graduates from any discipline for a career in Management, or a management role in any industry sector. Alternatively, a student can progress on to an MBA or specialist MA programme in any management discipline.

Course overview

The qualification is made up of nine units: three core units supported by six specialist units. The qualification broadens and deepens the learners’ management skills and knowledge. It will enable learners to achieve the following:

Arrow Icon the ability to deal with complex issues creatively yet systematically, make sound judgements and communicate their conclusions clearly to specialist and non-specialist audiences

Assessment

The qualification is assessed through tutor set assignments. All assessment decisions are internally verified which, are then externally verified by the Awarding Body, Edexcel. There are no written examinations for this qualification.

Duration and delivery mode
The course runs for 12 months. Delivery will be through Formal Lectures, Practical Workshops, Guest Speakers and Industrial Visits.
Entry requirements
There are different entry routes for this qualification.
Yellow Icon a degree, or BTEC HNC or Diploma in a related subject (e.g. Business or Management)
Yellow Icon a BTEC Level 5/6 Short Course in a related subject (eg Business or Management)
Yellow Icon appropriate work experience
Yellow Icon Mature learners will be considered if they have extensive work experience (paid and/or unpaid) and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector.
Progression
Learners completing this programme may pursue further studies and study for a Masters in Business Administration (MBA).
Assessment fees

There will be an assessment fee of £125 per paper chargeable during the semester assignment submission. If there is a delay or late submission of assessments then please note that this will incur an additional fee of £40 plus the assessment fee of £125 per module/assessment; however, there will be a grace period of maximum 2 weeks for late submission.

If you are not successful in any of your assessments then you will be allowed to resubmit a revised and edited assessment without any cost; however, you will need to adhere to a set time limit which will be notified by your course coordinator. If you fail to submit within the time frame then there will be a further cost of £40 for late submission, again subject to maximum one-week delay.

If you fail your resubmission assessment then you will be given a FINAL chance to redo your assessment at a cost of £125 but NO LATE SUBMISSIONS will be accepted. The late fee will be payable except under extenuating circumstances; however, proof and written confirmation must be provided and the final decision will be made by the academic panel.

Articulate a personal code of professional ethics. They will recognise situations where ethical dilemmas occur and be able to formulate effective, ethical business strategies for dealing with those situations. Apply new learning to research and career opportunities.
