Postgraduate Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management

This programme has been devised on the basis that students will attend a course of study of not less than 120 credits which equates to 240 hours’ tuition and 960 hours of directed learning. Candidates have an opportunity to gain credit towards either an MA, or an MSc degree. Candidates also have the opportunity to develop higher level academic skills that can be applied in a vocational context. The course also provides an effective route for graduates in other fields who wish to make a career change into the growing hospitality and tourism sectors.

Objective of the Postgraduate Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management
  • To understand the interrelationship between the hospitality and tourism sectors.
  • To explore the strategic issues in business development, rather than operational level issues.
  • To secure employment at senior supervisory/management level.
  • To secure progression to the dissertation stage of a Masters Degree.
Admission requirements
  • Minimum of degree graded “third” or above. Equivalence for non-UK degrees should be evaluated through NARIC.
  • Minimum of three years’ work experience at supervisory or managerial level for non-graduate from the hospitality and tourism industries.
  • At least IELTS 6.0 or other evidence of competence in English at this level.
Assessment

The Postgraduate Diploma assessment methods have been designed to enable students to demonstrate Level 7 outcomes for this level of qualification. Given the broad and highly varied nature of the hospitality and tourism industry, candidates will need to demonstrate the higher-level skills and qualities specified in the Level 7 outcomes within a non-homogeneous vocational context. Assessment involves investigative assignments, presentations and action research activities. The assessments of  candidates’ work is centre-based, against the specified learning outcomes and directed by CTH. To maintain the quality of these qualifications, all centres are expected to demonstrate a robust assessment system. In order to manage the quality of assessment within approved centres, CTH carries out external marking and moderation of assessments.

The full-time version of the programme comprises 2 years of full-time study. At our school there are currently two intakes for the full-time version of the programme each year. The first semester begins in mid June. The second commences in mid January.

Each stage comprises 15 weeks of full-time study. In the certificate and diploma stages 12 weeks are reserved for instruction, self-study and in-course assessments. Also, in each of these stages a further 3 weeks are reserved for self-study and in-course assignments.

All courses are structured in such a way to enable students to pass their examinations. Classes consist of formal lectures together with practice in attempting past examination questions.

Upon completion of the relevant Diploma, students can gain advanced entry into various universities in the UK. For more information on the above programmes and on the School, write to:
