Who is it for?
This award is designed to be applicable to staff who deliver physical, emotional, or enabling care to clients, who have a medium to high degree of dependency, whether they work in health or social care, in the public, private or voluntary sectors. It is designed to be applicable wherever such care is delivered (including hospitals, the client's own home, clinics, residential homes, nursing homes, day centres, and group homes). The award has links to NVQ in Care Level 2 awards, but reflects a higher level of responsibility and specialisation.

The course contains nine units, four mandatory and five optional:
Mandatory Units
Foster people's equality, diversity and rights
Promote effective communication and relationships
Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the workplace
Develop one's own knowledge and practice
Contribute to the protection of individual from abuse
Optional Units
Prepare and maintain environments for clinical procedures
Contribute to the development and effectiveness of work teams
Contribute to the development, provision and review of care programmes
Support clients during clinical activities
Contribute to the movement and handling of individuals to maximise their physical comfort
Receive, transmit, store and retrieve information
Support individuals and others through the progress of dying
Course Delivery Assessment
Course Delivery Assessment The learning materials are specially designed for learners to work through on their own with the help of a tutor/assessor who will assist them in their studies. Learners work through the support materials and complete activities and assessment for each unit.

The tutor/assessor will also observer learners carrying out practical tasks during normal working hours in order that the requirements of each unit can be met.

On completion of this programme learners will be able to progress on to NVQ Level 3 care.
